The Yankees placed outfielder Joey Gallo and catcher Kyle Higashioka on the COVID-19 injured list ahead of the team's doubleheader against the White Sox on Sunday in New York.

The team also transferred catcher Ben Rortvedt to the 60-day injured list.

For their corresponding moves, the Yankees recalled right-handed pitcher David McKay from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and signed catcher Rob Brantly to a major-league contract and selected him to the 26-man roster from the Triple-A affiliate. Brantly played in six games for New York last year.

Gallo, 28, is slashing .176/.294/.333 with five home runs through 35 games this season. The two-time All-Star last played Thursday against the Orioles.

The 32-year-old Higashioka is batting .154/.219/.200 with 10 hits through 24 games this year. He's coming off a season in which he hit a career-high 10 home runs in 67 games. Higashioka last played Saturday against the White Sox.

The Yankees also announced earlier Saturday that reliever Chad Green will undergo Tommy John surgery.
