Eddie Howe believes there's a good chance Callum Wilson will return to action for Newcastle this weekend.
Wilson said on a podcast on Thursday that he was "fully charged" after being out for four months.
The striker suffered a calf injury against Manchester United in December and has been absent since that draw.
But Howe is confident he could play a part in the game against Manchester City on Sunday.
He said: "Callum has trained all week. We're really pleased with him, he's trained really well. We've had two really tough days and he's come through those days excellently.
"Physically, he looks very good. He's put a lot of work in to get back to this point. I'm really pleased with his attitude, as I always am with Callum, and he looks in a good place.
"There's a good chance he'll be involved."
However, he cast doubt on the idea Kieran Trippier could also make his return.
Howe continued: "Kieran is slightly behind him this week in the sense that he hasn't trained every day, but when he has trained, he's trained very well, like he did yesterday.
"So we'll make a late call on him."
