Virginia Tech got its third commitment of the past week when Radford, Va., wide receiver/defensive back Marcell Baylor made his pledge to the Hokies on Instagram live Tuesday night. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Baylor also had offers from Boston College, Temple and a number of regional schools, including Liberty, James Madison, Old Dominion and Appalachian State.

Baylor has dabbled in a bit of everything just down the road at Radford, where he played quarterback, receiver and cornerback on a team that made it to the region semifinals last fall. He threw for 970 yards and 13 touchdowns, adding 779 yards on the ground in the regular season. He scored 12 touchdowns.

Hokies safeties coach Pierson Prioleau was Baylor’s primary recruiter. Before joining the Hokies’ staff initially as a player development director, Prioleau was Radford’s defensive coordinator from 2011-18.

Baylor is a three-star prospect and the No. 22 player in Virginia, according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings. He’s the sixth commitment in the Hokies’ 2023 class, which now ranks 36th nationally.
