“I see a lot of similarities when I look at him and when I see Patrick (Mahomes),” Hill told the show’s hosts.
Voters placed Tagovailoa is in Tier 4 of The Athletic’s NFL quarterback tiers for 2022. A Tier 4 quarterback could be an unproven player (not enough information for voters to classify) or a veteran who ideally would not start all 17 games.
One evaluator did tell The Athletic's Mike Sando that Tagovailoa is the most accurate of the recent Alabama quarterbacks. Still, a heavy amount of skepticism surrounds the young QB as voters worry about his ability to process quickly enough to protect himself.
“He’s a guy that I’m still holding on to the edge of my chair when I’m watching him play,” a quarterbacks coach said. “I am still cheering for him and I’m just hoping it doesn’t implode. Having Tyreek Hill and Terron Armstead and all the talent they have, there’s no excuses any more. He’s got to get it done.”
In two seasons, Tagovailoa has gone 13-8 as a starter, completing 66.2 percent of his passes for 4,467 yards, 27 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
