Parker, a four-star defensive lineman from Phenix City, Alabama, announced his commitment to Penn State after taking a recent official visit to Happy Valley.
Penn State’s 2023 class picked up a surprise commitment Tuesday when four-star defensive lineman Tomarrion Parker announced his verbal pledge. Parker, who hails from Phenix City, Alabama, is ranked 80th nationally in the 247 Sports Composite and is the eighth-ranked defensive lineman.
The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Parker took an official visit to Penn State last weekend. Parker had planned to take an official visit to Michigan State this weekend and then round out his officials with trips to Tennessee and Florida in the fall. Parker’s commitment gives Penn State three pledges ranked in the top 100 nationally in the 247Sports Composite, along with five-star offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier and four-star offensive lineman J’ven Williams.
After Penn State signed four prospects who were among the top 55 in the nation last cycle, in a class that finished No. 6, this is a large step toward stacking elite classes. There’s plenty of time between now and the early signing period in December, and keeping Parker on board and away from the SEC programs within close proximity to his hometown will be a critical storyline for this class.
It also has to be enticing to James Franklin and staff to think about the potential future of this defensive line, all while another of the Nittany Lions’ top remaining targets — four-star DeMatha Catholic (Md.) defensive lineman Jason Moore — is still in play, too. Moore took his Penn State official visit in early June and is ranked 52nd in the 2023 cycle.
With the addition of Parker, Penn State’s class is up to 14 players. The Nittany Lions remains in the mix for more blue-chip defensive prospects, two of whom set commitment dates for next month. Four-star linebacker Tony Rojas, who is ranked No. 143 nationally, is set to decide on July 5. Penn State, Miami, Clemson and Georgia are his finalists. Rojas also took an official visit to Penn State last weekend. Ta’Mere Robinson, a four-star edge prospect who is ranked 135th nationally and is the third-ranked player in Pennsylvania, is set to announce July 15. He was also at Penn State for an official visit last weekend.
