Five-star wide receiver Johntay Cook II became the latest recruit to commit to Texas football on Wednesday, making him the ninth player to join the Longhorns in the five days since No. 1 quarterback Arch Manning committed.
Cook, a 6-foot, 175-pound receiver from DeSoto, Texas, near Dallas, is the No. 36 player and No. 6 receiver in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rating. He visited Texas this past weekend and chose the Longhorns over offers from Michigan and Oregon, among others.
Cook is the third five-star recruit and 17th commitment in UT's 2023 class, which has seen a surge since Manning announced his decision on Thursday. Texas received one commitment Saturday, five Sunday, one Monday and one Tuesday. Five-star safety Derek Williams, the No. 38 player in the class, committed Monday.
With the latest commitment, Texas moved ahead of Notre Dame and now has the second-ranked class in 2023, behind Ohio State.
