Southampton have completed the signing of Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu on a five-year deal.
The Athletic understands Southampton have paid £12 million for Bazunu, which could rise to a fee in the region of £15 million in potential add-ons. It is thought the deal also includes a buy-back clause.
They have acted quickly to sign a replacement goalkeeper after Fraser Forster departed to join Tottenham Hotspur.
Southampton and Premier League champions City have been in negotiations for the past few weeks and The Athletic reported on Wednesday that a deal had been completed.
Southampton wanted to sign somebody who can challenge Alex McCarthy for the number one shirt and believe the 20-year-old Republic of Ireland international is that man.
Bazunu has already won 10 international caps and spent last season on loan at Portsmouth in League One, winning the south coast side’s player of the season award.
Forster, who played 134 Premier League games for Southampton after moving to the club from Celtic in 2014, has replaced Pierluigi Gollini as Hugo Lloris' backup at Spurs.
The England international has also won six caps for his country.Southampton sign Gavin Bazunu from Manchester City on five-year deal - The Athletic View Story
