Southampton head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl has said that he completely understands fan frustration after supporters called for him to be sacked during Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Brentford at St Mary’s.
Hasenhuttl’s side played dismally during the defeat, with goals from Pontus Jansson, Yoane Wissa, and Kristoffer Ajer leaving the south coast side looking nervously at the relegation zone.
They are on 40 points, eight points clear of 18th place Everton, but are in significantly worse form than the chasing sides, having won only one league game since March.
Southampton were in the top half of the Premier League in February.
Fans were heard singing “You’re getting sacked in the morning” during the second-half.
Hasenhuttl, 54, has been Southampton manager since December 2018.
Addressing their complaints, Hasenhuttl said: “At that time they were absolutely frustrated and I understand it completely. I take it absolutely, no problem. I am responsible for the results, for the mistakes my players make.”
