The NBA is making design changes to the Larry O'Brien Trophy and will give out conference finals MVP hardware named after Hall of Famers Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, the league announced on Thursday.

In addition to the new awards for conference finals MVPs, the trophies for the Eastern and Western Conference champions, first created in 2001, will now be named after Bob Cousy and Oscar Robertson.

The new Larry O'Brien Trophy includes three changes. The base of the trophy was reformed to include two stacked discs. The top disc includes the first 75 NBA champions. Starting this year, the names of each NBA champion will be etched on the bottom disc, which has enough room to show the next 25 champions.

The net and ball configuration has also been shifted forward to symbolize "the league looking ahead to its future," and the 24k gold vermeil was "masked" to reveal sterling silver in the channels of the ball and net.

The NBA Finals MVP trophy, named for Bill Russell, was also finished in gold vermeil to mask the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

The NBA collaborated with artist Victor Solomon and Tiffany & Co. on the trophies. Tiffany & Co. has designed and manufactured the Larry O'Brien Trophy since 1977.
