Middlesbrough have both Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow and Leicester City’s Daniel Iversen on their list to become the club's new first-choice goalkeeper, The Athletic understands.

The Teesside club have agreed to sign former Northampton keeper Liam Roberts on a two-year deal, who will have his medical today.

Roberts, 27, is expected to become back-up goalkeeper at the Riverside Stadium.

It is understood that Newcastle are looking for a new goalkeeper. A new arrival would open the door for Darlow to depart, which has put him on Middlesbrough's radar.

Iversen, 24, impressed on loan at Preston North End, who he initially joined in January 2021. Leicester are keen to send the former Danish youth international out on loan to assist his development, rather than make him third-choice at the King Power Stadium.

Middlesbrough’s first-choice goalkeeper last year was Joe Lumley, but the 27-year-old left for Reading on loan on Sunday afternoon.

The club finished seventh in the Championship last season, missing out on the play-off places by five points. They replaced manager Neil Warnock with Chris Wilder in November.
