Defenseman Kris Letang is re-signing with the Pittsburgh Penguins on a six-year, $36.6 million contract extension, the team announced on Thursday.
"Kris epitomizes what it means to be a Pittsburgh Penguin," general manager Ron Hextall said in a statement. "The role he plays on our team is irreplaceable, he is a leader in our locker room, and has made countless contributions to the organization over the last 15-plus years, which includes three Stanley Cup Championships. We are thrilled to make him a Penguin for life."
Letang, 35, has spent all 16 seasons of his career in Pittsburgh, winning Stanley Cup titles in 2009, 2016 and 2017. The six-time All-Star accounted for a career-high 68 points last season, scoring 10 goals and assisting on 58.
The Penguins also signed goalie Casey DeSmith to a two-year contract extension earlier this week.
Pittsburgh finished 46-25-11 during the 2021-22 regular season, losing to the New York Rangers in seven games in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
