Pep Guardiola has said he believes Bernardo Silva will be a Manchester City player next season despite continued speculation over the 27-year-old’s future.
Bernardo has been one of Manchester City’s star players ever since his move from Monaco in the summer of 2017, making over 250 appearances for the club and helping them to win four Premier League titles.
But in recent weeks there has been speculation he could seek a new challenge, amid interest from Barcelona.
Speaking at a press conference to preview Manchester City’s upcoming friendly against Barcelona, Guardiola said he thinks the player will remain in England for the coming season.
Guardiola said: “I think Bernardo Silva will stay with us, that’s my feeling as of today.
“We don’t know what will happen in the transfer window and we have always said that we want players that want to be in our club.
“But we really appreciate Bernardo and count on him for next season.”
City are set to play a charity friendly against Barcelona this summer at the Camp Nou — with the match to take place after the start of the season.
The plan is for the game to take place on August 24.
It will be a charity game to raise funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) awareness. It is in honour of Juan Carlos Unzue, a former Barcelona player and assistant coach.Guardiola believes Bernardo will stay at Manchester City amid Barcelona interest - The Athletic View Story
