He is the 13th commitment in this class and the 10th this month. Clemson currently has the nation's No. 4 class.
Four-star defensive lineman AJ Hoffler committed to Clemson on Tuesday evening, picking the Tigers over Ohio State, North Carolina and others. Hoffler, who attends Woodward Academy in Atlanta, is the nation's No. 288 prospect and No. 39 defensive lineman. He is also the No. 29 prospect in Georgia by the 247Sports Composite.
Hoffler originally planned to commit to a school around his birthday in August, but moved his timeline up not long after visiting the Tigers earlier this month. He is the 13th commitment in this class and the 10th this month for a Tigers program that has been a dominant force on the recruiting trail in June. Clemson currently has the nation's No. 4 class.
Hoffler planned to visit North Carolina at the end of the month, but by committing to Clemson, is agreeing to cancel that visit, per a Dabo Swinney policy for his pledges.
Hoffler took an official visit to Clemson June 3-5, where he enjoyed shrimp and grits, a photo shoot, a scavenger hunt on campus, basketball at Swinney’s home and down time with current Tigers players.
“My host was Myles Murphy but I was hanging with K.J. Henry, Tré Williams, Justin Mascoll (and) Kevin Swint,” Hoffler said. “Pretty much the majority of the D-line.”
Hoffler’s commitment gives Clemson three commitments along the defensive line, all of whom are four-star recruits. He is also the sixth player Swinney has taken from the state of Georgia, joining four-star defensive lineman Vic Burley, four-star linebacker Jamal Anderson, four-star cornerback Avieon Terrell, four-star linebacker Dee Crayton and four-star cornerback Branden Strozier.
