Former Jacksonville kicker Josh Lambo is suing the franchise, alleging former coach Urban Meyer subjected him to "a pattern of retaliatory harassment and a hostile work environment," according to court documents. Lambo is seeking his full $3.5 million salary for 2021 as well as damages for emotional distress and reputational harm, as he says the environment created by Meyer and the franchise affected his performance.

The lawsuit was filed in the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court in Duval County, Fla., on Tuesday. The veteran kicker was cut following Week 6, after missing three field goals and two extra points in Jacksonville’s first three games.

Lambo says in the lawsuit that Meyer kicked him while he was stretching during practice in August.

"Mr. Lambo was in a lunge position when Mr. Meyer approached him, kicked him in the leg, and used profanity to insult Mr. Lambo and warn him to make his kicks," the lawsuit states. "Specifically, Mr. Meyer screamed at Mr. Lambo, 'Hey dips--t, make your f--king kicks!'"

When Lambo objected to Meyer's actions, telling him, "Don't you ever f--king kick me again," Meyer responded, "I'm the head ball coach, I'll kick you whenever the f--k I want," according to the lawsuit.

Lambo verbally reported Meyer's actions to the team through his agent, but the team did not initiate an investigation or inform the NFL or NFL Players' Association of the allegations, according to the lawsuit.

"Mr. Meyer was furious with Mr. Lambo for objecting to Mr. Meyer's unlawful conduct," the lawsuit states. "In retaliation for his report, Mr. Meyer initiated a pattern of harassment, and created a hostile work environment for Mr. Lambo."

The lawsuit states Meyer's actions affected Lambo's ability to "sleep, practice and perform his job as he had in previous seasons under different coaches."

Lambo detailed his allegations in an article published by the Tampa Bay Times in December 2021. Meyer, in a statement in December, denied Lambo's description of the incident but was fired shortly after Lambo’s claims were made public.

“It certainly wasn’t as hard as he could’ve done it, but it certainly wasn’t a love tap,” Lambo told the Tampa Bay Times. “Truthfully, I’d register it as a five (out of 10). Which in the workplace, I don’t care if it’s football or not, the boss can’t strike an employee.

Lambo told The Tampa Bay Times he reported the incident to his agent Richard Irvin, who reached out to the Jaguars’ legal counsel the following day. Both Jacksonville and Irvin said legal counsel was contacted and Lambo was offered a chance to meet and discuss the situation. Lambo said the meeting never came to fruition.
