Lewis Warrington is on the verge of signing a new deal with Everton.

The 19-year-old's current deal at Goodison Park will expire in the summer. Warrington, who has spent the season on loan at Tranmere Rovers, has received interest from other clubs as a possible free agent in the summer.

However, The Athletic understands he will sign a new contract to tie him to Everton beyond the end of the season. It could be completed officially as early as next week.

Warrington has made 17 appearances in League Two on loan at Tranmere, scoring one goal and providing two assists. He came through the academy at Everton and is a big fan of the Merseyside club — but is yet to make his senior debut for the side.

He has received significant praise for performances at Tranmere. Manager Micky Mellon said: “He’s capable of knowing when to link up with the front men and he’s capable of driving that midfield at back fours.

“That is something, as a 19-year-old. That’s all he is and he’ll develop as he goes along.”
