Dmitry Bivol retained the WBA light heavyweight belt with a shocking unanimous decision upset (115-113 for all three judges) over Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Bivol, who entered the bout as a +400 underdog via BetMGM, peppered Alvarez with jabs and heavy combinations all night to secure the victory.
It was Alvarez’s first loss since Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September 2013. Bivol remains unbeaten through 20 professional fights.
"If you don't believe in yourself, what do you do? You achieve nothing," Bivol said after the win. "I believed."
