New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes will miss the rest of the season due to a low grade MCL sprain of his left knee, the team confirmed Tuesday night. Hughes sustained the injury April 2 in a knee-on-knee hit by New York Islanders' Oliver Wahlstrom, forcing him to leave the ice and ultimately not return.
Hughes will begin his motion rehab and conditioning immediately, the Devils announced.
The 20-year-old forward, who went No. 1 to the Devils in the 2019 NHL Draft, has a career-high 26 goals and 56 points in 49 games with New Jersey this season. He missed 17 games with a dislocated shoulder in October.
The Devils are 24-39-6 and eighth in the Metropolitan Division.
