Davidson head basketball coach Bob McKillop announced his retirement Friday after 33 years with the program.

McKillop, 71, compiled a 634-380 career record as head coach of the Wildcats and reached the Elite Eight in 2008 with a roster that included 2022 NBA Finals MVP Steph Curry.

Since McKillop assumed the role in 1989, Davidson has made 10 NCAA Tournament appearances while winning 11 SoCon and two Atlantic 10 regular-season titles.

"Love you coach!" Curry tweeted on Friday. "Thank you for everything you've done for me, my family, Davidson and every person you've impacted along the way."

Athletic Director Chris Clunie announced McKillop’s son, Matt, will take over as head coach. Matt joined the staff in 2008 after graduating from the school in 2006. At Davidson, he played for four years from 2002-06 and started 98 games. He was part of the 2006 team that qualified for the NCAA Tournament and still ranks in the school's top ten for 3-pointers made, 3-pointers attempted and 3-point percentage.
