The St. Louis Cardinals placed right-handed starter Adam Wainwright on the injured list on Friday. They also welcomed another starter, Steven Matz, back from the bereavement list.
"Just so everyone knows, I feel great," Wainwright tweeted. "100%, with zero symptoms. Out of an abundance of caution and following MLB protocols I have to test negative twice before I can return. Which we're hoping is very soon. Thanks for thinking about me!"
Wainwright, 40, is coming off his best start of the season, as he pitched seven scoreless innings with just one hit and one walk allowed in a 10-0 rout of the Kansas City Royals. He's 3-3 this season with a 3.18 ERA.
Matz signed a four-year, $44 million contract with the Cardinals in November. The 30-year-old lefty is 3-1 this season with a 4.56 ERA through five starts this season.Cardinals place Adam Wainwright on IL; Steven Matz returns from bereavement list - The Athletic View Story
