Astros left fielder Yordan Alvarez was carted off the field in the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the Mets after colliding with shortstop Jeremy Peña. New York's Domonic Smith popped out to shallow left field when Peña and Alvarez crashed into each other.
Peña, who caught the fly ball, appeared to hit Alvarez in the face with his arm as the outfielder ran in attempting to make a play on the ball. Alvarez fell to the ground and remained down as manager Dusty Baker and the Astros' trainers came out to examine him.
Alvarez later stood up, but the medical cart was brought out to take him off the field. Peña also exited the game, leaving under his own power.
