Andy Robertson has criticised UEFA and the French police for how Liverpool fans and his own friends and family were treated during his side's Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.

The Champions League final was delayed by 36 minutes as Liverpool fans were stuck outside the stadium with photos and video showing police firing pepper spray in the build-up to the game.

The game was originally delayed by 15 minutes before the Liverpool players emerged for a second warm-up, nearly 10 minutes after the originally scheduled kick-off time. The match was then delayed again, before a further six-minute delay until 8.36pm.

UEFA claimed the final was delayed because Liverpool fans arrived at the stadium late which was far from the case.

Local police said supporters had arrived at the Stade de France with fake tickets, with even one of Robertson's friends being told they had a counterfeit when the left-back received it from his club.

Robertson, speaking after Liverpool's 1-0 defeat, said: “You have to have some sympathy because this was thrown on Paris kind of the last minute with all that has gone on with Russia.

“But as a UEFA competition it is the biggest game in world football and it should be organised a lot better.

“Things like that should not be happening and definitely the force used by certain authorities should not be happening either.

“Pretty much all our families were affected, I think. I can only speak for my family and all I know is everyone is safe and that's my main priority. I hope all the fans are safe.

“My tickets were through the club and someone told one of my mates he had a fake ticket, which I assure you it wasn't because it was obviously through me," he said.

“Then obviously the French police decided to throw tear gas on fans and families. It's not been well organised.”

Robertson and his team-mates will take part in a trophy parade in Liverpool today to celebrate their season which saw Jurgen Klopp's men win the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
