Legendary sprinter Allyson Felix told The Associated Press on Friday that she'll be postponing her retirement to race in the women's 4x400 relay preliminaries Saturday night.

Felix had previously announced that last Friday's mixed-gender 4x400 was going to be her final race in international competition. However, after earning a bronze medal during that relay, the 36-year-old said coaches lured her back this week.

“The coaches asked if I was available and there was no way I’d turn the team down,” she said in an email to the AP.

Felix was a member of last summer's dominant women's 4x400 team that won a gold medal at the Tokyo Summer Olympics alongside Sydney McLaughlin, Dalilah Muhammad and Athing Mu, all of whom are world champions.

After running in the mixed-gender relay last Friday, it was assumed that Felix wouldn't take part in the final of the women's 4x400 at Worlds and either U.S. 200-meter champion Abby Steiner or U.S. 400-meter champion Talitha Diggs would take her place. Should the American team that runs the prelims qualify for the finals on Sunday, a different set of four relay runners could make up the final team.

With last week's bronze medal, Felix has earned a total of 30 medals at Olympics and Worlds competitions throughout her historic career.
