Alabama’s summer of discontent appears over with its 2023 recruiting class, as the Crimson Tide landed their fifth verbal commitment of this recruiting cycle when Tuscaloosa’s Wilkin Formby announced his pledge Monday evening.

Formby, from Northridge High School, is the No. 83 overall player in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports Composite, which ranks him as the No. 10 offensive tackle and the No. 10 player in the state. He is Alabama's first commitment since quarterback Eli Holstein committed in May. He helps Alabama’s class move to No. 35 nationally and fourth in the SEC with six months until the early signing period.

Formby took an official visit to Alabama on June 10 and also considered Oklahoma, Tennessee and Ole Miss.

Alabama’s class has been off to a slower start than usual, with the program taking a studied approach to the new NIL era of recruiting. The Crimson Tide’s class currently consists of a quarterback, an offensive tackle, an edge rusher, a safety and a cornerback.
